Rhythm, rhythm, and more rhythm! George Antheil’s Ballet mécanique for 16 player pianos, airplane propellor and gigantic percussion section started a riot at its Paris premiere in 1925. He later revised the scoring so that audiences could discover the wonderful music behind the novel façade. Sharing the stage is that other great Paris riot, Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, heard in a sensational new arrangement by Timothy Young. Justine Anderson sings Ginastera’s magical evocation of ancient central America.
